"And now I see, Ince ready for war, Gaza good as before, Shearer certain to score, And Psycho screaming, Three lions on a shirt....."
We were so close. At Italia 90, Gary Linekar's swansong nearly got us to the Final, whilst Gaza's tears of disappointment tugged at us all. He went on to score one of the best England goals ever in Euro 96 whilst Alan Shearer led the line as we crushed a good Holland side 4-1 in the same tournament. And Stuart Pearce roared his pride at wearing an England shirt. And by '98 Michael Owen had burst on to the international stage with his World Cup goal against Argentina.
